Alison Lee Rubie, Abandoned Passages (PLACES 2026)
As I wandered through the silent streets of ghost town of Kolmanskop, I was captivated by the contrast between the harsh desert and the remnants of a once-prosperous town. This black and white image strips the scene back to its essential elements—light, shadow, sand and form. The abandoned room, slowly being consumed by the dunes, speaks to the passage of time and the resilience of nature. I wanted to capture not just a place, but a feeling: the stillness, the history and the quiet inevitability of change.
