Keiko Ellis, A Personal Meeting with Mt Fuji (PLACES 2026)

The Mt Fuji Heritage Centre at Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, provides visitors with the experience of a personal encounter with Mt Fuji. There is a sloped spiral walkway which takes visitors from the entry level of the centre to the rooftop. Adjacent to the walkway is a sequence of images of the Mt Fuji landscape which assist visitors to imagine that they are climbing Mt Fuji. On arrival at the rooftop terrace the merging visitors are provided with a powerful view of Mt Fuji, including a reflection on the floor, which helps to make them feel they are meeting Mt Fuji 'face to face'. I hope my image captures the personal aspect of visitors interacting with Mt Fuji.
