TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Our terms and conditions have been approved by the PhotoWatchDog, the advocate for fair photo competitions in Australia. 

 

E L I G I B I L I T Y

1. The Mono Awards is open to citizens and residents of Australia and New Zealand. In order to receive a prize, winners must supply an Australian or New Zealand mailing address.

2. For the purposes of this competition a 'resident' is defined as someone who has lived in Australia or New Zealand for at least one year at the time of entering this competition. (We list 6 months for ATEP.)

3. Images must have been taken on or after 1 July 2019.

4. An entrant may enter multiple times into one or more categories.

5. Employees of Yaffa Media Pty Ltd (the competition organiser) and the sponsors of The Mono Awards 2021 are not permitted to enter the competition.

6. Freelance writers and photographers who have been paid to contribute to Australian Photography or Capture since 1 January 2020 are not permitted to enter the competition.

P R I C I N G

7. All categories

Early bird: $20 (12 February to 28 February 2021)
Standard: $25 (1 March to 16 May 2021)
Late: $30 (17 May to 13 June 2021)

All prices in Australian Dollars (AUD). Price is per entry.

C A T E G O R I E S

8. People
This category is for photographs of people. The main subject in your image should be a person or group of people.

9. Places
This category is for photographs of places (for example landscapes, streetscapes, seascapes, etc). People and animals may be included in this category, but they should not be the primary focus of the image.

10. Animals
This category is for photographs of animals. The main subject in your image should be an animal or group of animals. Animals may be captive or wild.

M O N O C H R O M E

11. Images must be in black and white or monochrome. For the purposes of this competition, monochrome is defined as varying tones of only one colour. Images with more than one hue, such as split-toned, spot-colour, or colour images are not eligible. Images may be converted from colour to black and white or monochrome in post-production. Images may be captured digitally or on film.

12. Images entered into the competition must be entirely photographic in origin. Adjustments may be made to cropping, noise, sharpness, shadows, highlights and contrast, including dodging and burning. Stitched panoramas, focus stacks, and HDR images, where two or more exposures are captured and merged to form a single image, are also permitted. Other composite images are not permitted. Cloning of dust spots, scratches, and minor distractions is permitted. The use of third-party content, such as stock imagery (including stock backgrounds, textures, borders, etc) is not allowed. Competition organisers reserve the right to request original RAW files. Furthermore, they reserve the right to disqualify any image if they feel it lacks authenticity due to over-manipulation.

13. The Mono Awards supports the safe and legal operation of remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), including drones. All entries captured with an RPA must comply with local rules and regulations. Any images suspected of being captured illegally will be disqualified. In order to be eligible for a prize, entrants must be able to provide verifiable EXIF data including drone type, position (latitude and longitude), and altitude information. Competition organisers reserve the right to disqualify any image they suspect may have been captured illegally.

C O P Y R I G H T

14. The entrant must be the creator of all elements in their submitted images. Any post-production and editing must be the work of the entrant.

15. Entrants retain copyright of their images. The entrant provides The Mono Awards, Australian Photography, and Capture a limited-use authorisation to publish and distribute their photographs for the sole purpose of promoting The Mono Awards. Images will be credited with the name of the photographer if used by The Mono Awards, Australian Photography, or Capture in any promotion.

I M A G E   R E Q U I R E M E N T S

16. Image format: Images must be in JPEG (.jpg) format

17. Image dimensions: Images entered should be at least 2500 pixels on the longest edge.

18. Image file size: Individual images must be no larger than 5MB.

19. Images should not include watermarks or other branding. The competition organiser reserves the right to disqualify any entry with a watermark or other branding.

C L O S I N G   D A T E

20. Closing date for entries is 11.59pm (AEST), Sunday 13 June 2021.

J U D G I N G

21. Entries will be shortlisted by staff of Australian Photography and Capture, published by Yaffa Media (ABN 54 002 699 354), 17-21 Bellevue Street, Surry Hills, NSW.

22. A panel of leading photographers will judge the shortlisted entries.

23. In the event of a tie for first or second place, the relevant images will be returned to the judges for an additional round of voting.

24. People's Choice voting will be conducted on the Capture magazine Facebook page in late September. Voting will be open for approximately two weeks. Images in the Top 30 of each category will be eligible for People's Choice. The image with the most likes in its category will be declared the People's Choice winner in that category when the voting period closes.

25. The judges' decisions are final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

W I N N E R S ’   A N N O U N C E M E N T

26. Winners, runners-up, and Top 10 images for each category will be announced on www.australianphotography.com, www.capturemag.com.au, and www.themonoawards.com.au in September 2021, and published in the September 2021 edition of Australian Photography magazine and the August-October 2021 issue of Capture magazine.

Winners, runners up, and the Top 10 in each category will be announced in Australian Photography (September 2021 issue) and Capture (August-October 2021) magazines. Announcements will also be made online at www.australianphotography.com, www.capturemag.com.au, and www.themonoawards.com.au in September 2021.

Certificates will be e-mailed for entries that receive Commended, Highly Commended, Top 30, Top 20, Top 10, Runner-up or Winner awards.

Following the winners' announcement, People's Choice judging will begin. This will be conducted on the Australian Photography Facebook page where the Top 30 from each category – People, Places and Animals – will be listed. Anyone is welcome to vote for their favourite images. Voting will be open for approximately two weeks. The image with the most likes, in each category, will be named the People's Choice winner and will be notified by e-mail.

P R I Z E S

27. Prize money is in Australian dollars.

28. Product prizes are subject to availability, not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. If a prize is unavailable, the competition organiser reserves the right to substitute the prize with a prize of similar value and/or specification.

G E N E R A L

29. Entry fees are non-refundable.

30. The entrant indemnifies Yaffa Media Pty Ltd against any claim, legal or otherwise, that may arise out of publication of images.

31. Yaffa Media Pty Ltd reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed to be in breach of the above Terms and Conditions.

32. By entering images into this competition the entrant guarantees to Yaffa Media Pty Ltd that all of the above Terms and Conditions have been met. Any entry found to breach the above Terms and Conditions will be disqualified and all prize money and product prizes must be returned to Yaffa Media Pty Ltd.
