A B O U T T H E C O M P E T I T I O N
Now in its third year, The Mono Awards, presented by SanDisk, is the only photography competition in Australia dedicated to black and white photography. The competition is hosted by Australian Photography and Capture.
W H O C A N E N T E R ?
The Mono Awards is open to residents and citizens of Australia and New Zealand. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter.
W H A T I S M O N O ?
Images entered in The Mono Awards competition must be black and white or monochrome. Monochrome images contain only tones of a single colour, eg black, blue, green etc.
I M A G E P R E P A R A T I O N
• Images must have been captured on or after 1 July 2019.
• Images must be in JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) format and should be at least 2500 pixels on the longest edge. Image file size must be no larger than 5MB.
• Do not include watermarks, logos or any other branding on your images.
• Image file names should not include unusual characters, eg ©, @, #, $, &, *, etc. These characters have caused problems with images uploading to the website in the past. If you find an image has not uploaded correctly, please email us at [email protected]

There are three categories in The Mono Awards: People, Places and Animals. You can enter one or more categories as many times as you like. For more information about the categories check the terms and conditions.

R E S U L T S
Winners, runners up, and the Top 10 in each category will be announced in Australian Photography and Capture magazines. Announcements will also be made online at australianphotography.com, capturemag.com.au and themonoawards.com.au in September 2021.
Certificates will be emailed for entries that receive Commended, Highly Commended, Top 30, Top 20, Top 10, Runner Up or Winner awards.
Following the winners' announcement, People's Choice judging will begin. This will be conducted on Australian Photography's Facebook page where the Top 30 from each category – People, Places and Animals – will be listed. Anyone is welcome to vote for their favourite images. Voting will be open for approximately two weeks. The image with the most likes, in each category, will be named the People's Choice winner and will be notified by email.
